September 16, 2000 Launch Report

Contributed by Mike Walsh Jr.

The day had clear skies and this day marked the first regional event at Buder Park. We had about 24 registered flyers make the trip for a great day of flying. We started around 10:45. The most frequent flyer award goes to Claude Paquin and Nadia Beck, both tied at 13 flights.

The largest motor flight goes to Dan Schneider, with his Aerotech G-Force on a G64 reload, followed closely by Steve Mizerany flying "Lucy In The Sky" on a G25, which is an excellent 5 second burn motor. Steve didn't win the longest burn motor, but whom should the award go to? How about Larry Mills flying his 'Short Shot' on an Apogee E8, which happens to have a 7.2 second burn. Nice job, Larry and Steve. Paul Graf put up his "Wallace and Grommit's Rocket" on a C6-3 for a good flight. He also flew his Saturn 1B on an E15. Jeff McCoy made 5 flights, all of which were contest flights. Greg made one flight with his "Old Lady" on a D12-5. Bruce Weidner flew 'Ugly Space Junk' on a D12-3.

The Walsh's were in attendance as well, putting up a total of 9 flights. Mitchell put up his Estes AIM-9 Sidewinder several times on D12-5's. He modified the Estes kit to take 24mm motors. Mike Jr. brought out his most recently built rocket. He promptly called it the Stinger, which is a 5x upscale of the Mosquito. He flew it 4 times, with D12's, E15's, and the last attempt being on an F24 reload. He did not have good luck on this flight, as it jammed on the rod, and hissed itself out. No real damage was found, and the problem has since been repaired. He flew his Mighty Mites Harpoon on an A3-2t, which he never recovered. The day ended at about 5:40, with Mitchell Walsh putting up his Snitch on a B6-4.

There were about 130 flights, and the most motors burned were the A's, with about 39 flights using these, followed closely by the C's, using 37 of the motors. The motor usage is as follows:

Micro Maxx- 1

A- 39

B- 20

C- 37

D- 20

E- 8

F- 3

G- 3
