There were 12 flyers plus as many more spectators, including several newcomers: Jon Neisch, Bob Schapp, and Gary Bievenue - welcome, guys! There were 98 flights, which is the record for a Polo Field launch, and nearly equals the record set at the April launch at Elsberry. There were 2 1/2A flights, 22 A's, 21 B's, 28 C's, 20 D's, 4 E's, and 1 F. Most frequent fliers included Steve Mizerany with 14 flights, Sean Hoffman with 11, Jim Hollister and Jon Neisch with 10 each, Gary and Matt Bievenue with 9, and Gary and Vincent Raley with 8.
John Buckley put in a good flight with his converted Revell X-15, which took 4th place at this year's NARAM. His Saturn V also flew, making a slow majestic liftoff on a D12. The main body failed to deploy its chutes, but it landed fairly softly and appeared undamaged.
Gary and Vincent Raley flew a wide range of rockets with 1/2A to E engines. Their V-3 roared to extreme altitude on an Aerotech E15, and they probably put their Estes Raider higher than one ever went before with a loud flight on an Apogee B7.
Jon Neisch had a fleet of nice models, and made a couple of beautiful flights with a beautiful Gyroc reproduction. Mike Hill had an interesting scratchbuilt which made a good flight on an E16 reload. Bob Schapp treated us to great flights by several old Estes classics - an Orbital Transport, an X-Ray with an Apogee II booster (with staged B14's yet), and a Mark II.
Mark Geislinger put in good flights with a couple of new rockets, a V-2 from the 2.6" Estes kit, and an original design 3x18mm cluster. Mark also showed us his nearly-completed Nike-Hercules based on the Launch Pad plan. Rob Chapie debuted a great-looking Mercury Atlas which flew on a D12, and also a well-built Estes Sidewinder which flew on Estes C6 and Aerotech E27 power. If that wasn't enough, he also put in very high flights with his Mountainside V-2 and Estes Terrier-Sandhawk on E28 and F24 reloads, respectively.
Our next launch is September 21, at the Creve Couer Park Polo Field.
