There was a good turnout with 15 flyers plus about as many more spectators. We had several newcomers: Mike Hill, James Hollister (no relation to Jack), Mike Schrader, Mike Wiese, and Randy Wuller. Welcome, guys; we hope to see you back again. Eighty-seven flights were made, with the lion's share using C or D motors. There were 2 1/2A flights, 5 A's, 15 B's, 33 C's, 30 D's (with 5 cluster flights), 1 E and 1 F. Most frequent flyers were newcomer Mike Schrader and family, with 15, Rob Truelove with 13, and Jack Hollister and Steve Mizerany with 10 each.
The highest-power flights were made by Rob Chapie; his nice Mountainside Hobbies V-2 blasted to very high altitude on E28 and F39 reloads. Steve and John Cox launched a Helix competition helicopter from a tower on A power; this made a beautiful flight of several minutes duration, a real treat for most of us who hadn't seen a contest-class helicopter flight before. Another nice long flight was made by Tom McAtee's Dark Angel, a B-2 - like boost-glider. This drifted across the field into a tree, but was knocked down by Dave Daven, and will fly again. Mike Schrader made several impressive flights with his two- stage Estes Magnum on D+B power. Randy and Ryan Wuller had a great maiden flight of their 4-engine D cluster Estes Patriot.
We also had the long-awaited streamer duration contest for unmodified Estes Vikings. On the B6-4 engines we used, these go practically out of sight. We only had 3 participants - Rob Chapie, Jack Hollister, and Heino Pull. Rob came out the winner, with a strategy that was not what some of us expected - he used all 5 fins on his rocket, as opposed to the 3 or 4 also allowed by the kit instructions. Hopefully he'll get some challengers at the next launch.
Thanks to the volunteers who helped with RSO/LCO duties: Dave Daven, Jack Hollister, Steve Mizerany, Heino Pull, John Sullivan, Rich Tabor, Rob Truelove, and Bruce Weidner.
Our next club meeting is July 9, and the next launch is July 20 at the Polo Field.
