Upcoming Launch Headlines:
The SLRA launch scheduled for this Saturday, April 26th at Elsberry, MO. has been CANCELED. The rain on Tuesday and Thursday (April 22nd and 24th) coupled with the line of thunderstorms that are moving through the region tonight (Friday, April 25th) have once again stopped the launch at Elsberry. The uncertainty of the rains effect on the fields and roads at Elsberry this late on a Friday make calling the launch on (or GO) at the last minute difficult if not impossible. In order to give a reasonable amount of notice so that members and flyers can plan their Saturday, it was decided that the launch needed to be Canceled. The next SLRA launch is the Boy Scout Rocket Derby scheduled for Saturday, May 17th. at Buder Park. Lets hope that the weather turns in our favor. Please check this page for updates and more information as it becomes available. Always check your E-mail and this web-site for cancellation or postponement notices before leaving for the launch site.
Launch Report: Scott Air Force Base Airfest 2007:
Again the rockets ascended in near vertical flight in the blue skies above the main runway at Scott Air Force Base in Southwestern Illinois. For the second year in a row all rockets recovered nicely, without incident and in close proximity to the launch pad area. Again....it was Perfect!! Over a two-day weekend on July 7th & 8th, 2007 the St. Louis Rocketry Association put on a good show for the Scott AFB Air Fest spectators and visitors. The High Power Rocket demonstration launch along with the SLRA static display and information booth made the weekend a complete success. Follow the link to see pictures of Scott AFB Air Fest 2007. Many thanks go to the SLRA membership for the tremendous effort they made before, during and after the event. (Bruce Weidner)
Launch Report: Boy Scout Rocket Derby 2007:
The Boy Scout Rocket Derby 2007 held in Buder Park was a great success. On Saturday, May 19th. about 55 Boy Scouts, and their friends made around 75 flights. 48 Boy Scouts were given certificates as part of the 50,000 flights by the NAR's 50th anniversary initiative. SLRA members and friends add about 25 flights including some nice Large Model Rockets projects. Everyone had a great time and the scout leaders from the Gravois Trail District as well as the Greater St. Louis Modelers Association were very happy with the results of the project and our efforts. Well Done and Thank You to the SLRA members that worked to make the 2007 edition of the Rocket Derby possible! (Bruce)
