St. Louis Rocketry Association
* Keep the Main Power Switch OFF and Key OUT
when range is OPEN.
DON'T perform any Continuity Checks while people are in the PAD or RANGE areas. **KEEP THE POWER
OFF!**
* The relay box STROBE LIGHT and relay box remote POWER switch MUST BE OFF when any flyer is at the remote relay pads. Use the PA system to instruct flyers. (NOTE: When the relay box remote POWER switch is ON a loud sonic beeper can be heard.)
* Before launching each batch of rockets and before the flyers leave the pad area after final prep, check the launch rod angles to make sure they are NOT directed toward TOWN, the SPECTATOR AREA or any PEOPLE or PROPERTY. Use the PA system to instruct the flyers to change launch rod angles when necessary. If rockets are flying back over the spectator area, CHANGE THE LAUNCH ROD ANGLES!!
* Before EACH rocket is launched CHECK FOR AIRCRAFT. Also check VISIBILITY and CLOUD conditions. We can not fly into any cloud or at an altitude where the cloud coverage is more than 5 tens coverage.
* Before EACH rocket is launched CHECK ACTIVITY of SPECTATORS, FLYERS and PERSONS or PROPERTY not associated with the launch. The LCO MUST HALT the launching of any rockets when unauthorized persons, vehicles or aircraft enter the operation area. Even if AIRCRAFT ARE VERY HIGH. Immediately before beginning the count-down of each rocket make the above checks and announce "THE SKY IS CLEAR. THE RANGE IS CLEAR." over the PA system.
* If the rocket to be launched has been designated as a HEADS-UP flight by the RSO, or in the judgement of the LCO, should be a HEADS-UP flight, then before the launch of that rocket, if ANY spectators/flyers are not WATCHING the rocket, the LCO will instruct them to do so, using the PA system. The LCO should vary his voice (louder, faster, repeat words), when trying to gain the attention of people attending the launch, during a heads- up or emergency situation.
* The LCO MUST HALT the launching of any rockets for any reason that is in the INTEREST OF SAFETY, **FOR-AS-LONG-AS-NECESSARY**.
* ONLY persons necessary to support the launch should be in the operating areas. Spectators in the launch pad area must be escorted by SLRA members during periods of open range.
* All Low-Current or High-Power ignitors MUST have the leads SHORTED until the rocket is placed on the pad and the rocket is fully Preped. Exceptions are Estes Solar Ignitors, Quest Tiger Tails, Aerotech Copperheads.
* All Low-Current or High-Power ignitors MUST be installed in the FINAL PREP area (Ignitor Table), NOT in the spectator or vehicle area. The LCO must make sure that all rockets are POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION during this procedure.
* On any QUESTION OF SAFETY, the LCO must inform the RANGE SAFETY OFFICER.
