Elsberry
Launch Site Directions
( 1) From St. Louis go West on Interstate highway
I-70 towards St. Peters Missouri.
( 2) Turn North at Exit #220 onto Missouri
highway 79 and go about 30 miles to the town of Elsberry,
Missouri
NOTE: The junction of highway 79 and highway JJ is located at the South end of the town of
Elsberry,
about 1,000 feet South of the steel
bridge on highway 79. If you cross the steel
bridge at the
South end of Elsberry, you have gone to far!
( 3) At the junction of highway 79 and highway JJ
turn East onto Old Highway 79. This
road may
also be marked as County Road 925. Note: highway JJ ends on the West side of highway 79.
The continuation of
the road on the East side of the intersection is Old Highway 79 (County
Road 925).
( 4) Go across the railroad tracks. CAUTION: This is an UNGUARDED railroad track crossing
and trains do use these tracks often.
( 5) After crossing the railroad tracks,
immediately look for a "Rocket Launch Sign". The
rocket
launch will be held at one of several launch sites
depending on the weather and wind conditions.
The "Rocket Launch Signs"
will have arrows pointing the way.
( 6) If the cable
across the bridge directly ahead of you (going East over the drainage ditch) is
unlocked then
goto step #7. If the cable across the bridge is locked then go directly to step #8.
( 7) Follow the arrow on
the first "Rocket Launch Sign"
directing you to cross the bridge over
drainage ditch at this location and continue on, following
the next "Rocket Launch Sign" in the
sequence, until you reach the
launch site. Do not follow step #8. Please see Note below.
( 8) Follow the arrow on
the first "Rocket Launch Sign" directing
you to turn Right (South) on Old
Highway
79 (County Road 925). Do not try and
go straight (East) across the drainage ditch at
this Location. Do not tamper with the cable across the steel
bridge or try and go under it.
( 9) Go about 7 tenths of a mile South on Old Highway 79 and look for another "Rocket Launch
Sign" directing you to turn Left (East) on a gravel farm
road and across a steel bridge over the
drainage ditch.
(10) Continue on the gravel
farm road going East for about 5 tenths of a mile until you come to
another "Rocket Launch
Sign" located in a barn yard.
(11) Follow the direction of
the arrows on the "Rocket
Launch Signs" either
straight-ahead (going
East) or Left
(going North) until you reach the location of launch site.
NOTE:
Because we have all day to go very short distances, please drive very slowly.
Never leave the gravel road system for any reason. Be very careful not to do
any damage to the roads, the shoulders of the roads or any open areas along the
roads with your vehicle. Please ask Bruce, at the launch site, what roads may
be used to retrieve rockets, depending on weather conditions. Always be courteous if a local resident or
farmer from the Elsberry area approaches or talks to you.
